HOW IT HAPPENED

Friday's game was a tale of two periods. The Beacons jumped all over the Statesmen in the first period, as they scored a goal in the opening minute and two in the opening five, before going into the first intermission leading 3-0.

Hobart flipped the script in the second stanza. The Statesmen scored a pair of power-play goals to get back within one and then scored three goals in a 5:33 span to take control of the game for good.

Nick Albano (Beverly, Mass.), Chris Peters (Fairport, N.Y.) and Jake Adkins (Centennial, Colo.) all scored for the Beacons in the contest.

Ethan Nitkin (Miami Beach, Fla.) and Andy Walker (Mason, Mich.) had two assists apiece.

In net, Bailey MacBurnie (Beverly, Mass.) made 38 saves on 43 shots to fall to 6-5 on the year.

Mike Faulkner and Lawson MacDougall led the Statesmen with a goal and an assist apiece. Alec Robitaille, Mark Benemerito and Julien Denicourt also added goals in the victory.

Sophomore Liam Lascelle made 18 saves on 18 shots over the final 40 minutes to earn the victory. He replaced Joe Halstrom, who made 12 saves on 15 shots in the opening stanza.

UMass Boston opened the scoring 51 seconds into the game. After Walker was denied on a chance in tight, he collected the loose puck and fed Albano along the near circle and Albano unleashed a wrister that snuck just inside the far post.

The Beacons doubled their advantage at 3:49. Off an offensive zone draw, Nitkin centered the puck for a wide-open Peters and he roofed a shot over Halstrom's glove for a 2-0 lead.

UMass Boston made it 3-0 at 14:58 of the period. Jack Riley (Wrentham, Mass.) pushed the puck ahead for Derek Caruso (Port Washington, N.Y.) to start a 3-on-1. Caruso skated the puck into the zone and dished it across for Adkins who beat Halstrom glove side.

The Beacons had a chance to make it 4-0, but UMass Boston was unable to score on their two power-play chances in the first period.

Hobart completely turned the tide in the second. The Statesmen outshot the Beacons 18-6 and scored all five of their goals in the stanza.

After the Beacons were whistled for their second penalty of the day, Faulkner skated the puck in the from the blue line and unleashed a cannon of a shot over MacBurnie 10 seconds into the power-play (3:52).

Denicourt made it 2-0 at 6:45, when he took the puck off of the wall and unleashed a shot that caromed off the inside of the near post and all the way across to the far post for a power-play tally.

The Statesmen's top line tied the game at 10:33 of the period. Zack Sternbach fed MacDougall a centering feed and while MacBurnie made the initial kick save, Sternbach collected the rebound and flicked a backhand shot in to the tie game.

Benemerito gave his team the lead at 13:31, after the Beacons couldn't control the puck below the goal line and it deflected right to Benemerito for an easy finish.

Hobart closed out the scoring at 16:06. PA Martineau redirected Faulkner's shot from the blue line on target and Robitaille scooped up the rebound and roofed it home for a 5-3 lead.

UMass Boston came out of the second intermission playing much better, but they couldn't solve Lascelle. The Beacons outshot Hobart 12-9 in the period and had several great chances, but the sophomore goalie stood tall and made several strong saves.
