Box Score BABSON PARK, Mass.—Babson College scored five goals in the first 12:34 of the first period, to defeat UMass Boston men's hockey 6-3 on Saturday afternoon at the Babson Skating Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Beavers extended their nation-leading 12-game unbeaten streak (10-0-2) by scoring the first five goals of the game, including three goals on a five-minute power-play.
Joe Petruzzella (Scottsdale, Ariz.) led the Beacons with a goal and an assist in the loss. Chris Peters (Fairport, N.Y.) and Jack Riley (Wrentham, Mass.) each added a goal and Derek Caruso (Port Washington, N.Y.) tacked on a pair of assists.
In net, sophomore Nolan Egbert (North Massapequa, N.Y.) got the start and made 11 saves on 14 shots. He was replaced by freshman Sam Best (Woburn, Mass.), who stopped 22 of 25 shots over the final 48:45.
Andrew Holland led the hosts with a pair of goals. Cooper Norton, Connor Dahlman Ryan Black and Ryan McDougall all added a goal apiece and Cam Schmitt and John Corrigan added two assists each.
In net, sophomore Aidan Murphy moved to 8-0-1 by making 37 saves on 40 shots.
Babson took the lead for good at 6:10 of the first period, when Holland scored off a feed from Schmitt.
The game took a bad turn for the Beacons just over a minute later, when Babson earned a five-minute power-play.
Egbert and the Beacons kept the nation's leading power-play off the board for the first 3:30 of the power-play, before Babson struck for three goals in 31 seconds.
Holland made it 2-0 at 10:55 and Dahlman scored from just inside the blue line at 11:15.
The Beacons made a goalie change after the Dahlman goal, but it didn't slow down the hosts. Black made it 4-0 with a power-play goal 11 seconds later and Babson added a goal just after the penalty expired at 12:34.
UMass Boston cut the deficit to 5-1 just over a minute later, when Petruzzella scored his second in the past three games at 13:46.
After a disastrous first period, UMass Boston carried the play in the second and third periods.
The Beacons doubled up the Beavers in shots in the second period (16-8) and scored the period's lone goal. Peters made it 5-2 at 4:17 of the period on an unassisted goal. UMass Boston had chances to get even closer, but they failed to take advantage of three Babson penalties.
Babson hurt the Beacons' chances of making a comeback in the third, when McDougall scored an unassisted goal 4:19 into the period.
Riley capped off the scoring at 5:11, with his career-high ninth goal of the season.
BY THE NUMBERS
- UMass Boston outshot Babson for the game 40-39. The Beacons led 33-17 over the final two periods, after being outshot 22-7 in the first.
- Babson went 3-6 on the power-play, while UMass Boston finished 0-3.
- With the win, Babson improves to 44-18-6 all-time against the Beacons. This is the first season in six years that the two sides did not split the regular-season series. UMass Boston hasn't won the regular-season series since the 2012-13 season (1-0-1).

UMass Boston will return home on Friday night, when they host the University of Southern Maine at 7 p.m. The Beacons defeated the Huskies 8-1 on November 16 in the first meeting between the two sides.
