HOW IT HAPPENED

Gottesman's day which last 5.1 innings saw the righty hold the Vikings to just one run on five hits.  He also walked just one batter in his best start of the season.  Before his day came to an end, Gottesman retired eight in a row, which allowed the Beacons to score a pair of runs to take a 2-1 lead into the sixth.

The Beacons then tacked on another run in the sixth, and with an RBI double by Kyle Boudrias (Medford, Mass.) in the seventh pushed their lead to 4-1. A three-run eighth sealed the victory for the Beacons as Eddie Riley (Quincy, Mass.) hit his team leading third home run, a solo shot.  Nick Cotraro (Beverly, Mass.) would also come home on a wild pitch, while Nick Herzog (Riverhead, N.Y.) knocked-in the final run for UMB on an RBI fielder's choice.

Despite the six-run deficit, the Vikings came fighting back scoring three-runs of their own in the bottom half of the eighth.

The Beacons could not add to their lead in the ninth, giving Salem State an better chance to walk-off.  However, those thoughts were quickly put to rest as the Beacons called in closer Bobby Tramondozzi (Peabody, Mass.) The righty dispatched the Vikings to earn his ninth save of the season.

Riley finished 2-for-4 on the afternoon with an RBI and two-runs scored.  Boudrias plated a pair of runs as he extended his hit streak to 22 consecutive games.

Herzog also extended a hit-streak of his own as he recorded at-least one extra base hit in the sixth straight game.  The reigning Little East Player of the Week recorded a double on his only hit of the day to go along with an RBI and a run scored.
