Slow Start Dooms Lacrosse Against Nichols

Box Score

DAVENPORT, Fla. – A scoreless first quarter ultimately doomed the lacrosse team as Nichols College managed to slip past the Beacons by the final of 15-10 Thursday evening at NE Regional Park.

THE BASICS

UMass Boston 10, Nichols College 15

UMass Boston (1-3)
Nichols College (5-1)

HOW IT HAPPENED

Despite the early deficit, the Beacons tried to fight their way back throughout the final 45 minutes of play.  They did cut the Bisons' lead to one thanks to a 5-0 run between the end of the third and the beginning of the fourth.  Josh Holmes (Weymouth, Mass.) brought the Beacons to within the one score, with Kroy Arnold (Syracuse, N.Y.) assisting on the play.

Unfortunately, a 5-1 run by the Nichols attack, sealed the win for the Bison as UMB could not overtake their longtime rivals.

Clay Arnold (Syracuse, N.Y.) continued his offensive hot streak as the senior registered three goals, while Joe Mauceri (Scituate, Mass.) finished with a pair of scores, the second of which came with six minutes remaining in the fourth which made it 12-10 at the time.

Jacob Sinclair-Steeves (North Reading, Mass.) led the Beacons with a career-high eight ground balls, while also collecting 17 of the team's 29 face-off attempts.  Adam Cariveau (Hudson, Mass.) finished second on the team with five ground balls.

In goal Cameron Dixson (Wayland, Mass.) was handed his first loss of the year, despite making eight stops.

Reece O'Connor and Brayden Carrol each scored four goals for the Bison, with Carrol also tallying an assist for a game-high five points.  Casey Campanale also matched the game-high in points, as he notched three goals and two assists.  Brian McKinley finished with 11 stops to improve to 5-1 on the year.
