BOSTON, Mass. – A total of 22 and with at-least one run in every inning but two the 3rd/5th ranked baseball team pounded Lasell College by the final of 20-1 Wednesday afternoon at Monan Park in the 2018 season opener for both teams.

HOW IT HAPPENED
After being sidelined for the 2017 season due to an injury, second baseman Dave Murphy (Plymouth, Mass.), showed that had been eager to get back on the field with a two-run inside the park home run in the first inning. It scored Kyle Boudrias (Medford, Mass.), who had doubled to right field. The fast start did not stop there, as Chris Fowler (Barnstable, Mass.), Ryan McCormick (Cumberland, R.I), and Anthony Cecere (Wakefield, Mass.) all reached on base hits which scored 3 runs, giving the Beacons a 5-0 lead through one inning of play.
After back-to-back singles from Boudrias and Murphy to get things going in the home half of the second, left handed batter Fowler went with an outside pitch and slapped it out to left field to widen the gap to 6-0. A sacrifice-fly off the bat of Nick Herzog (Riverhead, N.Y.) scored another run, followed by a wild pitch which brought home Fowler (8-0).
Leadoff hitter Sal Frosceno (Derby, Conn.) got his first hit of the season in the third inning which was an RBI double off the wall (9-0).
McCormick rifled a ground rule double over the left field fence to leadoff the fifth inning. Two batters later, Cecere traded spots with him with a ground rule double of-his-own (10-1).
Left handed pitcher Joey Rogers (Dighton, Mass) got the start and looked as comfortable as ever right from the get-go. He gave up one-run over five innings, while striking out three batters, and giving up five hits to go with two walks.
Ben Gottesman (Acton, Mass.) entered the game to pitch in the 6th after Rogers' day was over. He threw two strikeouts over two innings of work while only giving up one hit and one walk.
With two outs in the bottom of the 7th, the Beacons really opened things up by scoring five runs. A standup triple to the triangle in center field from Charlie Huegi (Sandy Hook, Conn.) scored the first run of the big inning.
Nick Palma (Peabody, Mass.) took advantage of his first collegiate plate appearance as he went with an outside pitch to right field to score a run. After a nice hit by Eddie Riley (Quincy, Mass.), Murphy came through once again with a two-run double down the left field line. Fowler added to his big day with a hit to bring Murphy home.
Wanderson Pinales' (Bani, D.R.) quiet day at the plate quickly changed in the 8th with an inside the park home run; the second of the day for the beacons. Riley drove in Danny Brown (Hudson, N.H.) and Derek Estes (Hyannis, Mass.) with a triple, but the damage didnot stop there. Kyle Brezinski (Rochester, Mass.) hit a run-scoring double in his first career at bat just before Nick Cotraro (Beverly, Mass.) drove him in with a triple.
Joe Maguire (Peabody, Mass.) pitched a perfect 1-2-3 eighth inning, the first one of the day for the Beacons. Closer Bobby Tramondozzi (Peabody, Mass.) was able to top that in the 9th by striking out the side, finishing off UMass Boston's victory.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Wednesday's win marked the third straight season opening win for the Beacons
- UMass Boston is now 6-1 all-time against Lasell College
