CAMBRIDGE, Mass.—Three Beacons went 2-0, to lead UMass Boston men's tennis past rival Suffolk University in the Beacons' New England opener Thursday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Austin DeLasse (Mexico City, Mexico), Alexander Comerchero (Brookline, Mass.) and Ray Platteel (Holbrook, Mass.) each went 2-0, to help UMass Boston past the Rams.
The Beacons took two of out three doubles points and won five of the six singles matches, to easily earn their second win of the year.
UMass Boston opened the match with DeLasse and Comerchero dominating their opponents at number one doubles for an 8-3 win.
Suffolk responded back to tie the match at 1-1 with an 8-4 win at second doubles. The Beacons would take the lead into singles play, as Guang Huang (Quincy, Mass.) and Platteel teamed up for an 8-5 victory at third doubles.
DeLasse would quickly push the lead to 3-1, as the newly minted junior captain routed Francesco Saia 6-1, 6-0 at number one singles.
Suffolk's Omar Azzaoui earned his second win of the day at number three singles, as the freshman defeated Tin Tran (Quincy, Mass.) 6-0, 6-0.
It would be all Beacons from there, as UMass Boston picked up the final four points of the day.
Comerchero was the next Beacon to finish his match. The freshman, who had been just three points away from his first singles win against Curry-before suffering an injury, easily won at second singles. He defeated Cameron Roach 6-0, 6-2.
Fellow freshman Onkgopotse Mokoka also earned his first collegiate singles win, as he clinched the match win with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at sixth singles.
In the closest match in singles play, junior Sanshrut Sharma (Mumbai, India) earned a 7-6 (7-2), 7-5 win over Chris Parnagian at fourth singles.
Platteel closed out the match with a 6-2, 6-3 win at fifth singles.
BY THE NUMBERS
- UMass Boston improved to 19-13 all-time against their Boston rivals. The Beacons have won four in a row dating back to 2013, and have won at least seven points in all four matches.
- The Beacons were playing without sophomore Josh Bhasin (Tulsa, Okla.) who normally plays at the second singles spot.
- All three Beacons first-year players have now earned at least one singles victory.
