PROVIDENCE, R.I. (April 30, 2026) — The UMass Boston Beacons' men's tennis season came to a close Thursday afternoon as the (10-4) Beacons fell to Rhode Island College (11-3) by a score of 4-0 in the LEC Semifinals on the road at the RIC Tennis Center.
How It Happened
The Beacons dropped the doubles point despite winning the top doubles match. William Kubinec (East Boston, Mass.) and Thomas Ameral (Ellington, Conn.) took care of business at No. 1 doubles, defeating Travis Chartier and Kyle Neuendorf 6-4. However, Rhode Island College answered by winning both the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles matches — Ethan Clegg and James McShane defeated Dominik Dwyer (Dedham, Mass.) and Mario Pangione (Carver, mass.) 7-5, and Sairaj Srinivasan and John Vaughan edged Joseph Malone (Dennis, Mass.) and James Tiger Li (Quincy, Mass.) 7-5 — giving RIC the doubles point and a 1-0 lead heading into singles.
Rhode Island College extended their advantage quickly in singles play. Travis Chartier dispatched Dwyer 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, and James McShane took down Shaoyuan Song (Zhengzhou City, Henan Province) 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4, and John Vaughan defeated Pangione 6-4, 6-2 at No. 5 to clinch the match for the Anchormen. The three remaining singles matches — Kubinec at No. 2, Ameral at No. 3, and Saravana Rakshana at No. 6 — were left unfinished once the outcome was decided.
