HOW IT HAPPENED

The visiting Wildcats managed to hold the Beacons scoreless in the first quarter while they tacked on four scores to take an early lead.  In the second, the Beacons attack finally got going as they outscored the Wildcats 4-2.

Will Christiansen (Weston, Mass.) gave the Beacons their first goal of the night just 46 seconds into the second frame.  Adam Cariveau (Hudson, Mass.) then tacked on UMB's second goal to make it 4-2 off of an assist from Christiansen.  Johnson & Wales, ended the Beacons quick offensive surge at the 9:54 mark, but UMB answered back moments later to keep it a two goal game.  After Eric Russo registered his second of the quarter for JWU, Cariveau capped off the frame with a huge goal with just under one second remaining.

Surette made a key stop on JWU's final possession of the quarter and rather than holding onto the ball, he launched it the length of the field where he found a wide open Cariveau.  The freshman then beat JWU's Bradley Morris top corner to give the Beacons a huge boost of momentum heading into the halftime break.

Looking as if things were shifting in favor of the home team, Johnson and Wales would return after the intermission and completely owned the third quarter.  They would take advantage of some lapses the Beacons end, as they outscored UMB 5-1.

The final quarter saw Josh Holmes (Weymouth, Mass.) score back-to-back goals to make it a four goal game with 9:28 left in regulation.  Unfortunately that would be the only offense UMB would produce in the fourth, as Johnson & Wales clinched the win with two straight scores.

Surette was solid all night, as he registered six stops in the second and a career-high eight in the fourth.  Morris was equally as impressive, as he made 15 total saves, including seven in the fourth.

The Beacons also had a hard time on the face-off "X" as they won just nine of the games 22 draws.  Matt Murphy (Watertown, Mass.) and Jack Dillon (Barrington, R.I.) each registered five ground balls, while Dillon also leading the team in caused turnovers with two.  Holmes closed out the night with three goals, while Cariveau posted two goals and two assists.
