HOW IT HAPPENED
Despite struggling to pick up their play throughout the afternoon, the Beacons ended their seven-game road trip with a seventh-straight win, thanks to an early Kenawy marker.
The sophomore forward scored his sixth goal in four games in the 14th minute, off a pass from Joshua Khang (Brockton, Mass.).
Castro-Dreher and the Beacons' back line took care of things from there, as the talented freshman stopped three shots in his fourth-consecutive shutout. He has now allowed just two goals in 551 minutes of action.
The rest of the afternoon proved frustrating for the Beacons, who saw Colby-Sawyer goalie Jake Towle stop 10 of the 11 shots he faced. The sophomore keeper made at least two point blank saves in the second half and the Beacons also connected with the crossbar on two occassions.
After a slow start, UMass Boston opened the scoring on their fourth shot of the afternoon. Khang opened up the Chargers back line with a through ball and Kenawy was able to beat the keeper with a shot into the right corner.
UMass Boston looked poised to blow the game game open less than two minutes later, but Guilherme Barbosa's (Saugus, Mass.) header hit the underside of the crossbar and bounced out.
The Chargers would hold the Beacons in check until after the break, when UMass Boston began creating more frequent chances from their prescence along the flanks. Klismam Mendes (Fogo, Cape Verde), Jake Davenport (Weymouth, Mass.) and Barbosa were able to carry the ball past the outside back and cut inside for crosses, only to have chances turned away by the Chargers.
In a three-minutes span around the 75-minute mark, UMass Boston had two point-blank shots from inside the 18 parried away and Kenawy clipped the top of the crossbar on a rising shot.
Castro-Dreher was barely challenged, but the freshman made a key stop from eight-yards out on Denail Sexton's shot in the 55th minute.
