HOW IT HAPPENED
A four-run top of the first, and a six-run fourth inning fueled the Beacons win over the Gulls. They would then tack on two more in the sixth to secure the win, with their program record 11th consecutive win.
UMass Boston combined for 12 hits, with Anthony Searles (Shelton, Conn.) going yard in the sixth with a two-run bomb to cap-off a 5-0 week. The junior catcher finished the day 3-for-5 at the plate and had three RBI and accounted for three of the Beacons 12 runs. Ryan Olivo (Rochester, N.Y.) also had a huge day at the plate as he went 3-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored.
On the hill Sal Frosceno (Derby, Conn.) picked-up his third win of the year (3-1) after going six complete. During his outing the Connecticut native allowed two runs, one earned, on five hits, and had a pair of strikeouts, while also allowing two walks.
The Beacons first inning saw them take early control of Sunday's non-conference affair. Olivo, drove in the first run of the day, on an RBI single which plated Lionel Danielson (St. Croix, Virgin Islands). Kyle Boudrias (Medford, Mass.) then walked in their second run of the day on a bases loaded walk to make it 2-0 Beacons. Nick Herzog (Riverhead, N.Y.) kept the inning going with an RBI single, followed by a Charlie Huegi (Sandy Hook, Conn.) RBI fielder's choice to make it 4-0 through the first half inning.
Nick Berno got Endicott on the board in bottom of the third on a solo shot, but that run was quickly countered by the Beacons six-run fourth inning. Murphy drove in a pair of runs on his 18th double of the season, to make it 6-1 UMB. Olivo then drove in two runs of his own on a single up the middle. From there Searles knocked-in a run on a ground-rule double, with Herzog closing out the frame with an RBI groundout to the shortstop.
Endicott would plate their second run of the day on a fielding error by the Beacons, but with Searles two-run bomb in the sixth a late run by the Gulls was all but eliminated. Endicott knocked in two more runs in the seventh and eighth innings.
Brady Hall lasted just a third of an inning and was handed the loss after allowing four runs on three hits.
