BOSTON, Mass. – With a combined nine strikeouts, six of which came from newcomer JT Morin (Wilton, Conn.), baseball cruised to a 4-0 non-conference win over MIT in the Beacons first-ever home game at their brand-new state-of-the-art facility, Monan Park.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Over three innings of work, Morin absolutely dominated the Engineers, as he did not allow one hit, and walked just one batter.  From there the bullpen carried the momentum the rest of the way and went into the top of the ninth carrying a no-hitter.  Bryan Kaufman (Farmingdale, N.Y.) and Steve Consiglio (Southbury, Conn.) each collected their first K's of the year, while starter Dan Mantoni (Northbridge, Mass.) picked-up his first strikeout of the year.  The Northbridge native did allow four walks in the first three innings in the Beacons new home.

At the dish it was also senior outfielder Bryan Dupre (Pittsfield, Mass.) as he recorded the first double and triple in Monan Park history.  He also accounted for two of the Beacons four runs, and finished the afternoon 2-for-2.  Sal Frosceno (Derby, Conn.) was just as impressive in his sophomore debut, totaling three hits, and a pair of RBI. 

In his lone at-bat of the afternoon, pinch hitter Lionel Danielson (St. Croix, Virgin Islands) plated senior captain Anthony Searles after ripping a single. 

The Beacons got on their brand-new scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth when Frosceno laid down a perfectly placed bunt down the first base line, which scored Kyle Boudrias (Medford, Mass.).  Frosceno would then have a hand in the Beacons second run of the day when they pulled of a perfectly executed delayed steal, which allowed Dupre reach home.

After Danielson's RBI single in the sixth, Frosceno drove in the final run of the day, on another RIB single, which once again plated Dupre.

The only inning the Engineers threatened the Beacons lead was in the ninth, when they loaded the bases.  However Consiglio battled back and got back-to-back outs to close out the win.

BY THE NUMBERS

• Monday's contest marked the first season opening win for UMass Boston since 2014
• The shutout was the first since the Beacons 9-0 win over Western Connecticut State University on May 1, 2015
• The shutout was the first-ever for UMass over MIT and marked their second straight win over the Engineers
• Monan Park officially broke ground last June and is now the Beacons first home field in the program 30+ year history.
