HOW IT HAPPENED
Lapolla carried the Rams to the victory as the catcher finished single short of hitting for the cycle. He drove in four runs, and accounted for three of his team's run, as he went 3-for-3 on the afternoon. The Rams wasted little time getting on the scoreboard as they tacked on a pair of goals in the bottom of the first.
They then made it a 3-0 ball game in the third, and extended their lead to four (4-0) in the sixth. UMass finally got on the board in the eighth, when Dave Murphy (Plymouth, Mass.) ripped an RBI double down the right field line, which plated Lionel Danielson (St. Croix, Virgin Islands).
Unfortunately, the Rams answered right back with three more runs to make it (7-1). The Beacons final two runs of their spring trip came on an error by the Suffolk third baseman, which scored Frank Johnson and Charlie Huegi (Sandy Hook, Conn.).
On the hill, Dan Mantoni (Northbridge, Mass.) was handed his first loss after toing just two innings. Lefty JT Morin (Wilton, Conn.) stepped in and went five complete innings, before Bobby Tramondozzi (Peabody, Mass.) closed out the loss.
