Box Score PROVIDENCE, R.I. – A three-goal run by Johnson and Wales University in the final five minutes of the fourth quarter pushed the host Wildcasts past the Beacons as they earned a 10-9 decision Wednesday evening at the SMG Athletic Complex.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Despite a goal by Calvin Lee (Hopkinton, Mass.) with 5:55 left in regulation, the host Wildcats rattled off three goals to hand the Beacons their first loss of the 2016 season. The Beacons initially held a two-goal lead (8-6) through the third quarter, with Lee and Conor Smith (Kingston, Mass.) each finding the back of the net.
The first two quarters of Wednesday's contest was a back-and-forth affair, as the Beacons overcame an early 3-0 deficit through the first 15 minutes of play. UMass rattled off six goals in the second, while holding the Wildcats to just three goals to go into the halftime break even at 6-6.
Lee led UMass' attack with three goals and two assists, while Matthew Duggan (Weymouth, Mass.) finished with three goals of his own, all coming in the second quarter. Smith also registered a hat trick in the non-conference loss.
Jack Dillon (Barrington, R.I.) led the Beacons defense with an impressive nine ground balls and five caused turnovers. Craig Frehill (Norwell, Mass.) tallied 11 saves on 21 shots for UMass.
Max Stone led Johnson and Wales with three goals and two assists, while Eric Russo finished with two goals and four assists.
The Beacons finished 7-for-22 on the face-off, and were 20-for-25 on clear attempts.
