HOW IT HAPPENED
After the Golden Eagles tied the score at 3-3 in the top half of the ninth, the Beacons had one last shot to take back the victory before heading into extra frames. Brockport would get a quick first out on a line-out to the left fielder. The Beacons would then get their first base runner thanks to an error by the first baseman.
A passed ball would move Johnson to second, after he entered the game as a pinch runner. Looking to get the double play ball, Brockport walked Bryan Dupre (Chicopee, Mass.) to put runners on first and second with one out. They would then get their second on a swinging strikeout.
A walk by Sal Frosceno (Derby, Conn.) would load the bases. Moments later, Lopez ripped the single down the left field line passed the third baseman, allowing Johnson to score easily. Manny Garcia (Boston, Mass.) earned the win on the hill after going 2.2 innings. It was Garcia who allowed the two runs in the top half of the ninth, but his team managed to battle back to give the freshman lefty his second win of the campaign.
Fernando Burgos (Hyde Park, Mass.) got the start in Tuesday's contest, and went a strong six innings allowing just one run, unearned, on four hits. He also struckout six during his outing and surrendered just one walk.
Anthony Searles (Shelton, Conn.) led the Beacons at the plate as he went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. He recorded the team's only extra base hit, a double in the third inning, which scored Lionel Danielson (St. Croix, Virgin Islands) to give the Beacons a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the third.
Seve Kowalski was handed the loss for Brockport, his second of the year, after going just 1.1. Jason Hellwig did a majority of the week for the Golden Eagles' bullpen as he went six innings. He allowed one run on three hits, and had one of the team's four K's.
