HOW IT HAPPENED
In their home debut, UMB wasted little time establishing a presence as they tacked on a power-play goal on their first man-up opportunity. Colin Lark (Waterford, Mich.) collected the goal at the 4:25 mark with an assist from Albee Daley (Averill Park, N.Y.) and Derek Caruso (Port Washington, N.Y.). Almost 10 minutes later, Drew Gannon (Plano, Texas), who also had a PP goal in the second made it a 2-0 contest in favor of the Beacons.
UMass Boston could have blown the game wide open in the first as they outshot the Corsairs 21-8 through the first 20 minutes.
In the second Gannon quickly pushed their lead to three goals in the first two minutes of the new frame. Dakota Keene (Poland, Maine) made it a four goal affair, with his first collegiate tally at the 15:06 mark, with Daniel Nachbaur (Richland, Wash.) assisting on the play.
The final frame, the Beacons were held scoreless for the first 11 minutes, but all but sealed the win when Caruso scored the shorthanded tally. The final goal came from Bryan Carter (Hudson, Mass.) in the 17th minute on an unassisted play.
Over the final the two periods UMB combined for 36 shots on goal, while the Beacons D-lines held the Corsairs to a mere nine shots over the final 40 minutes of play.
