HOW IT HAPPENED
In a back-and-forth battle from start to finish, the Beacons remained atop the conference standings, with the standout play of Williamson. The big forward, collected his first goal of the night on an absolute laser that beat UMD goalkeeper Luis Carranza to the near post in the 36th minute. He would then make it a two goal affair in the 60th minute after he once again beat the Corsairs goalkeeper to the near post, off of a perfectly placed pass by Mohamed Kenawy (Revere, Mass.).
Even with the 2-0 lead, the Corsairs did not lay down and concede to their in-state rivals. John Correia ended the Beacons shutout bid in the 64th minute as he headed home a free kick to the far post. Troy Martins sent the long ball in to the corner of the goal box, which Correia headed past Beacons goalkeeper Omar Castro-Dreher (Woonsocket, R.I.).
Nine minutes later, Matt Vidal scored the goal of the night as he unloaded a half-volley from about 30 yards out that hit the upper right corner, evening the score at 2-2 with 17 minutes left in regulation.
Following that goal, UMD was hit with a red card, which killed all the momentum they had built off of the back-to-back goals. The Beacons would then take full advantage of the man-down situation, as Williamson would beat the Corsairs defense on a slow roller to the near post in the 82nd minute. Jake Davenport played a major part in the deciding goal as the Beacons improved to 4-0 for only the second time in program history.
