#10/10 UMass Boston 8, University of Southern Maine 0
(UMass Boston 10-0-0, Little East 3-0-0)
(University of Southern Maine 1-6-3, Little East 0-3-0)
HOW IT HAPPENED
Morales scored early and often in the Beacons' rout of the host Huskies. The junior scored his first hat trick as a Beacon in the opening 17 minutes and tacked on three more goals by the 61:31 mark.
His six goals and 13 total points rank as the second-most in program-history, only behind a record day from the program's all-time leading scorer Charlie Keskinidis ('90). Keskinidis recorded a program-record seven goals and 16 total points in an 11-1 win over Suffolk University on September 23, 1989.
With the win, UMass Boston tied the program-record and school record with their tenth-consecutive win to start a season. The Beacons and the 2014-15 men's hockey teams also started the season 10-0-0.
Sophomore Mohamed Kenawy (Revere, Mass.) added two goals and an assist, while Ocane Williamson (Spanishtown, Jamaica.) finished with one goal.
Seniors Edmilson Barros (Praia, Cape Verde) and Klismam Mendes (Fogo, Cape Verde) each added two assists in the victory.
In net, freshmen Omar Castro-Dreher (Woonsocket, R.I.) and Aidan Carter (Weymouth, Mass.) combined for the team's ninth-consecutive shutout.
UMass Boston put the game away in the opening 5:01 with three goals in a span of 2:16.
Morales fittingly opened the scoring at 2:45, when he flicked it home off a Barros cross. The junior transfer tacked on a second-goal at 4:18, when he headed home a Mendes cross. Kenawy added a third goal at 5:01, with Morales picking up his lone assist of the day.
Morales completed his first of two hat tricks on the day at 16:55 thanks to a miscue by the Huskies' back line. He pushed the lead to 5-0 just before the half-hour mark, when Calvin Smick (Wilmington, Del.) fed him the ball and his shot from 25-yards out beat the keeper on a low bounce.
UMass Boston quickly added a pair of goals to start the second half, with Williamson scoring off a volley from five-yards out and Morales scoring at 51:46.
The Beacons extended the lead to 9-0 with goals from Morales (61:31) and Kenawy (77:30)
