HOW IT HAPPENED
In a match-up of the fifth and sixth ranked teams in New England, men's soccer continued their historic run, as they drove home a pair of second half goals to seal the huge non-conference decision.
Kenawy had a pair of shot attempts in the second and 12th minutes, however Joe Schallmo came up with saves on both attempts. Wentworth had its best chance in the 20th minute, however a Matt Cicalis shot went wide of the goal.
Sophomore Joshua Khang (Brockton, Mass.) provided the lone goal in the first half when Kenawy fed him just outside the box. Khang fired a rocket that would go off of Schallmo's hands at 23:14.
In the 49th minute, Wentworth had a chance to tie the game, however Noah Martins' header deflected off the post. At 51:10, however, the Leopards would tie the game when Cicalis sent a pass to senior David Cook, who directed a shot to the left side.
Cook's goal began a flurry of scoring with three tallies scored in a span of 7:44. UMass Boston got the eventual game winner at 53:16 when junior Edmilson Barros (Praia, Cape Verde) sent a long pass which was played by Kenawy. Kenawy then sent a pass to the center of the box where Teixeira put home a shot to the left side.
Kenawy and Teixeira connected again on an insurance goal at 58:54 when Kenawy's shot was deflected out by Schallmo. Teixeira's attempt looked like it was going high, however was tucked under the crossbar.
Senior Estive Sousa (Chelsea, Mass.) made three saves while a Beacon backline player cleared away a shot attempt. Schallmo made six saves on the evening. UMass Boston had a 17-15 shot advantage while Wentworth had a 4-3 edge on corner kicks.
