Keene State Downs Lacrosse In Conference Play

KEENE, N.H. – A 15 goal first half would push the conference leading Owls of Keene State College past lacrosse by the final of 22-8 Wednesday evening at Owl Athletic Complex in a Little East Conference match.

With the loss, the Beacons dropped to 4-8 overall, and remain winless in conference play (0-4).  The Owls, who sit atop the conference standings, improved to 4-0 overall in Little East action, while overall they now stand at 7-4.

For the Beacons attack, seniors Donny Delpha (Walpole, Mass.) and Michael Kennedy (Hudson, Mass.) each recorded a team-high three goals.  Kennedy's hat-trick marked the first of his career with the Beacons.

The Owls were led by Tyler McKelvie, who had six goals in the conference win. 

Phil Truong (Quincy, Mass.) led the midfield with seven ground balls, and was also 11-for-25 in the face-off "X".  Netminder Craig Frehill (Norwell, Mass.) finished second on the team with six GB's and also made a combined 11 saves between the pipes. 

James Dowd posted 12 ground balls, and was 13-for-19 on the "X".  Dylan Florian earned the win for the Owls, as they featured four different goalies in the win.  Florian made just one save, while Mat Howe finished with five of the Owls six stops.

Keene State led the contest in shots (54-21) and ground balls (59-28).  The Beacons were 16-for-22 on clear attempts, while the Owls were a perfect 15-for-15.

Through the first quarter, the Owls would tack on 10 goals, while limiting the Beacons to just two.  UMass would score two more in the second, while limiting the Owls to five.  In the final two frames, the Beacons would score four more times, while the Owls finished with seven.

Lacrosse returns to action on Saturday when they travel to Plymouth State University for 6:30 p.m. conference game.  The game will be played at the New Hampton School.
