Box Score DAVENPORT, Fla. – Led by Noah Ellis' (Hingham, Mass.) four points (3 goals, 1 assist) lacrosse got back on the winning track as they defeated Bard College (N.Y.) by the final of 10-4 Monday evening at the Davenport Sports Complex.
With the victory, the Beacons improved to 3-2 on the year, and ended a two-game skid. For the Raptors they dropped to 2-2 on the year, following Monday's contest.
Also having a strong day for UMass Boston was Michael Kennedy (Hudson, Mass.), who fired home two goals and also had one assist.
Picking up the victory between the pipes was AJ Collette (West Springfield, Mass.). The sophomore netminder made nine stops to earn his first win of the 2015 season.
Monday's contest got off to a slow start for the Beacons attack, but with a three-goal flurry to close out the opening quarter, the Beacons found themselves in control 4-1. Kennedy would own two of the Beacons first four scores, while Ellis and Nick Tangherlini (Cohasset, Mass.) each found the back of the cage once.
In the second quarter senior Ryan McGoff (Charlestown, Mass.) and Ellis pushed the Beacons lead to four as UMass headed into the halftime break with a 6-2 lead.
After the break, the Beacons attack would muster up just one score, with Tangherlini finding the back of the net for the second time in Monday's contest. The Raptors also registered a goal to keep it at a four-score game.
In the final frame, UMass outscored Bard 3-1 to earn the 10-4 decision. John Powers (Marshfield, Mass.) got on the board with a goal in the 10th minute to make it 8-3 UMB. With that goal, Powers became the newest member of the Beacons 100-point club, and is the second player in this years senior class to surpass the 100-point mark.
Five minutes later the senior would assist on Ellis' third goal of the night. The final Beacons goal came on a man-up opportunity with Joseph Cunningham (Hudson, Mass.) scoring off of a Daniel Watson (Chapel Hill, N.C.) assist.
Tim Milch (Marshfield, Mass.) and Sean LeBlanc (Marshfield, Mass.) anchored the Beacons defense with four ground balls each, while the Beacons as a whole combined for 15 caused turnovers. On the night UMass totaled a season-high 40 groundballs, and were 22-for-25 on clear attempts.
On the face-off "X" Phil Truong (Quincy, Mass.) was solid all evening as he won nine of the Beacons 10 face-offs.
Lacrosse returns to action on Thursday when they face Florida Tech in Melbourne at 7 p.m.
