DUDLEY, Mass. – Sophomore Tyler Sikich potted the final three goals of the game including the overtime winner as the Nichols College men's lacrosse team defeated UMass Boston 9-8 in non-conference action Thursday night at Vendetti Field.

This is the first win for the Bison over the Beacons under fourth-year head coach Eric Gobiel. The last win for Nichols over UMass Boston was a 13-10 win in Dudley in 1992.

The Beacons (2-2) carried a 6-1 lead into the fourth quarter behind two goals from junior Noah Ellis (Hingham, Mass.). The Bison proceeded to score seven of the next nine goals to tie the game at eight.

Sophomore Steven Oldakowski connected on his first goal of his collegiate career to get the scoring started in the fourth quarter at 13:55. Senior Donny Delpha (Walpole, Mass.) answered right back for the Beacons at 12:58 to move the margin back up to five.

At 12:12 MacKenzie Martin scored his second goal of the game to cut into the deficit, but it was senior John Powers (Marshfield, Mass.) answering right back again for the Beacons to make the score 8-3.  Powers needs just one more point to record his 100th as a Beacon.

At 10:10 the Bison began their streak. Martin connected on his first collegiate hat trick followed by senior Corey Davis putting the ball in the net to cut the lead to three.

Senior Michael Bane scored next to make the score 8-6 Beacons lead with just over four minutes to go in the fourth quarter. The goal marked the 100th of Bane's career, making him only the third Bison in program-history to do so.

Sikich put in his first goal of the game with just three minutes remaining to make it a one goal game. It wouldn't take him long to even the score when at 1:40 Sikich took off from twenty yards out, juked one defender and fired a shot past sophomore goaltender AJ Collette (West Springfield, Mass.).

The goal pushed the Bison (3-1) to play in their second overtime game already this season. At 1:46 of overtime, Davis held the ball to the right of the net about five yards away when he found a cutting Sikich and fed him the ball. Sikich took two steps before firing one into the lower right hand side of the net for the win.

Freshman James Keane stopped 12 shots and improves to 3-1 on the year. Collette made a career-high 16 saves but fell to 0-1 on the season.

The Beacons next game is against Bard (N.Y.) on Monday at 7:00 p.m. in Davenport, Fla.
