HOW IT HAPPENED

Shane Mendel's tally at the 31:14 mark of the first half is all the offense Babson would need, as the host Beavers handed the Beacons their first loss of the season.

The substitute's shot hit off a Beacons defender and snuck just past UMass Boston senior goalie Alfonso Rosales (Revere, Mass.) for the long marker of the day. Babson's Noah Parked was credited with the assist on the play.

Rosales made six stops on seven shots, as he fell to 6-1-0 on the season. The senior keeper saw his scoreless streak of 520:13 come to a close in the loss.

Senior forward Pedro Dasilva (Fogo, Cape Verde) and freshman midfielder Mohamed Kenawy (Revere, Mass.) tied for the Beacons' team lead with four shots apiece.

Dasilva had a golden opportunity to score early in the first half, when fellow senior Elton Teixiera (Fogo, Cape Verde) slipped him a pass at the near post, but the pass fell just out of the reach of Dasilva's right foot.

Babson constantly sent two and three defenders after the Beacons' senior forward, who was named the Little East Conference Offensive Player of the Week on Monday.
