STANDISH, MAINE (Sept. 6, 2026) – The UMass Boston Beacons men's soccer team scored a pair of goals just 0:26 apart in the 84
th minute and notched a thrilling 3-2 victory over the Saint Joseph's College (Maine) Monks on Sunday afternoon at the SJC Athletic Complex.
With the victory, the Beacons improve to 3-0 on the young season, while the Monks fall to 1-1.
This marks the first 3-0 start for UMass Boston since opening the 2016 campaign with 10 straight wins.
Trailing 2-1 late in the contest, a cross into the box deflected off the shoulder of a Monks defender and fell to
Cam Ramos (Minas Gerais, Brazil) who collected it with a touch and buried the equalizer. 0:26 later,
Raphael Alves (Framingham, Mass.) executed a give-and-go with senior
John Arruda (Espirito Santo, Brazil) who sent the eventual game-winner past the keeper for a 3-2 advantage.
Arruda continued his torrid start to the 2026 season with his third goal and second game-winning tally.
The game was scoreless through the first 45 minutes despite a series of chances from UMass Boston including a pair of team saves for the Monks in the third and 22
nd minutes following chances by Ramos and
Eduardo Chirico (Minas Gerais, Brazil).
Saint Joseph's opened the scoring in the 53
rd minute with a goal from Godin Ndayishimiye. However, the Beacons responded a tick over three minutes later as Ramos calmly converted a penalty kick for the first of his two goals on the afternoon.
Khail Ghosheh found the back of the net in the 66
th minute to give the lead back to the Monks, but UMass Boston battled throughout and used their relentless offensive pressure to complete the comeback in the final minute.
Head coach
Jake Beverlin's team held a decisive 25-6 advantage in shots led by seven from Ramos.
Mario Hajhdi (Ilioupoli, Greece) made one save in the contest and earned his third victory of the season.
