Rosales Sets Career Wins Record as Men's Soccer Improves to 10-0

Box Score

DARTMOUTH, Mass. – Senior goalkeeper Alfonso Rosales (Revere, Mass.) did not have to make a save, as he and senior Pedro Dasilva (Fogo, Cape Verde) led men's soccer to a 1-0 Little East Conference win over UMass Dartmouth Saturday afternoon at Cressy Field.  With the victory, Rosales broke the program record for career wins by a goalkeeper, as the Revere native earned his 27th victory to give UMass Boston their 10th straight win.

THE BASICS

UMass Boston 1, UMass Dartmouth 0

UMass Boston (10-0-0, 3-0-0 Little East Conference)
UMass Dartmouth (4-4-1, 0-2-1 Little East Conference)

HOW IT HAPPENED

With less than four minutes remaining in regulation and the score knotted at 0-0, Dasilva notched his eighth marker of the year, after making a great play which beat the Corsairs defense.  The Beacons deciding goal, stemmed from a throw-in along the right sideline, which was then quickly crossed into the middle of the field.

Dasilva brought the ball down with his left foot, and fired home a perfectly placed shot to give the Beacons the huge advantage in the closing minutes.

Even with the late one goal deficit, the Corsairs did not lay down and die, as they were given a free kick chance right outside the Beacons box in the final minute of play.  Prince Odoro, tried to equalize the game on the free kick, but managed to drill the ball into the heart of the Beacons wall.

The Beacons dominated play all afternoon, despite scoring just the one goal.  UMass outshot the intra-state rivals 22-3, but were held in check by a strong team effort by UMD.  Andre Reis managed five stops, while his defense came-up with two saves of-their-own.

BY THE NUMBERS

  • The 10-0 start for UMass Boston marks the second longest undefeated streak to start a year by any Beacons team since the men's ice hockey team started their 2014-15 season off with a 10-0 record.
