Dasilva Pushes Men's Soccer Past Wentworth Institute

Box Score

BOSTON, Mass. – A four-goal afternoon from junior transfer Pedro Dasilva (Fogo, Cape Verde) carried men's soccer to their fourth straight win as they defeated Wentworth Institute of Technology by the final of 4-2 Wednesday afternoon at the Clark Athletic Center Field.

Dasilva became the first player since Romeo Zeqo in 2008 to net four markers in a single contest.  The victory improved the Beacons overall record to 5-3-0, while the Leopards fell to 2-3-3.  Wednesday's contest, marked just the second meeting between the programs.  The two squads first met in 1988, with UMass earning a 5-1 decision on their home field.

On his first goal of the day, Dasilva broke through Wentworth's defense and beat the keeper to the near post to make it 1-0 Beacons in the 15th minute.  Just about 20 minutes later, Joe Kalil tied the match at 1-1 on his second goal of the year.

The draw did not last long, as Dasilva regained the lead for his team just before the halftime break.  The Cape Verde native took advantage of a loose ball in the box following a save from the Leopards Kevin Pepin.  The goalkeeper was unable to collect the ball after making a strong save off of a hard Joshua Khang (Brockton, Mass.) shot, allowing Dasilva to sneak in and tap the ball home.  Khang's assist marked the first collegiate point for the freshman midfielder.

Following the break, Dasilva made it a two-goal affair in the 52nd minute on a penalty kick.  With time continuing to wind down, Kalil made it a one-goal game again as he snuck a head ball shot to the near post past Beacons goalkeeper Alfonso Rosales (Revere, Mass.).

However moments later, the Beacons got an insurance goal from Dasilva with less than 10 minutes to play in regulation.  His seventh tally of the year, came after he dribbled the ball around the defense and the goalkeeper to make it 4-2.

Despite surrendering the two goals, the Beacons defense and midfield continued their strong play.  They possessed the ball for a majority of the contest, and set-up multiple runs up the sidelines or through the middle of the offensive third.

Wentworth did lead the match in total shots, 15-13, but with nine saves by Rosales their recent two-game win-streak came to an end Wednesday afternoon.  His nine stops marked a career-best for the Revere native.  Pepin managed three saves in the loss.

The Beacons return to action on Saturday when they host UMass Dartmouth at 1 p.m. in a Little East Conference match.
