Gulls Fly Past Baseball in Non-Conference Tilt

Box Score

BROCKTON, Mass. – Led by Mike Nich's 10 strikeouts the Gulls of Endicott College (14-9) handed baseball their third straight loss as they defeated the Beacons (9-11) by the final of 7-2 Wednesday evening at Campanelli Stadium.

Nich went all nine innings to improve to 2-1 on the year and scattered seven Beacons hits, all of which were singles.  At the plate the Gulls used a three run top of the third and a two run seventh and ninth to secure the victory.

The Beacons would score their only two runs of the night in the first two innings, with Jose Pena (Boston, Mass.) and Charles LaPaglia (Marshfield, Mass.) each reaching home plate.  Pena had another strong day for UMB's offense as he went 3-for-3, all singles, and one walk.

Junior righty Lucas Ilges (Gloucester, Mass.) was handed the loss after surrendering five runs, four earned, on eight hits through seven complete innings.  He also struckout six, while reliever Tyler Kane (Wilbraham, Mass.) fanned two Gulls in the final two innings, in which he allowed two runs on the three hits.

Connor Ressel proved to be the hot bat for Endicott as the center fielder went 2-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored.  Third baseman Taylor English also had a big day, despite going 1-for-4 English walked with three RBI, first driving in two with a single in the top of the third, and a groundout in the seventh.

Perhaps the biggest killer for the Beacons was their inability to move runners around the bases.  In total the Beacons stranded eight, and had bases loaded in the first two innings, but were only able to plate one run in each.

Also making contact in the Wednesday's loss was Jamill Moquette (Boston, Mass.), Matt Consiglio (Southbury, Conn.), Todd Ezold (Westfield, Mass.), and Bryan Dupre (Chicopee, Mass.).

Baseball returns to action tomorrow when they travel to Babson College for a 3:30 p.m. non-conference game.  Tomorrow's contest will mark the seventh game that the Beacons will have played in the last six days.
