Baseball Blanks Roger Williams, 10-0

Box Score

LEESBURG, Fla. – With a combined nine hits and nine scoreless innings from the Beacons pitching staff, baseball (5-2) cruised to a 10-0 in-region victory over Roger Williams University (2-6) Friday afternoon at Pat Thomas Stadium.

Leading the Beacons bullpen was starter Daniel Heefner (Tracy, Calif.) who produced another dominating performance on the hill.  Through seven complete innings the righty allowed just four hits while also striking out five.  In the eighth Matt Dziok (Southampton, Mass.) continued to lead the way as he allowed the final hit of the afternoon for the Hawks as Tyler Kane (Wilbraham, Mass.) closed out the game in the ninth without surrendering a hit to secure the victory.

At the plate Matt Consiglio (Southbury, Conn.), who made the switch from shortstop to first base led the day with two hits, two RBI, and a run scored in five appearances.  Jamill Moquette (Boston, Mass.) and Dominic Morbidelli (Oakland, Calif.) each crushed huge extra base hits, as Moquette notched his first triple of the season, while Morbidelli tallied his first career double at UMass.

Also producing at the plate was senior outfielder Mark McCormack (Shelton, Conn.) who went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.  Charles LaPaglia (Marshfield, Mass.) drove in a combined three runs and also posted a single to help fuel the Beacons offensive output.

UMass Boston wasted little time getting on the scoreboard as they tacked on three runs in the bottom half of the first inning.  After a scoreless second, the Beacons would tack on five more runs over the next three innings to take an 8-0 lead.

The final two runs of the afternoon came in the bottom half of the eighth when Moquette drove in a run on his triple.  Moquette would then touch home plate following an error by the second baseman, the Hawks sixth of the day.

Baseball closes out their spring trip tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. when they take on St. Norbert College.
