MANSFIELD, CT - The University of Massachusetts Boston men's lacrosse team fell this afternoon to Eastern Connecticut State University, 21-1, in Little East Conference play at the Mansfield Outdoor Complex. With the win, the Warriors improve to 7-2 and 2-0 in LEC play while the loss drops UMass Boston to 3-6 overall, 0-2 in the LEC.
The Warriors jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the first quarter of play and never looked back. By halftime Eastern mounted a commanding 10-0 lead on goals from seven different players including three from senior Vinny Tornatore (Norfolk, CT) and a pair from senior Grant Albertson (New Canaan, CT).
Eastern would continue to build its lead, scoring seven goals in the third quarter including two more from Tornatore and a pair from senior Michael Glennon (Walpole, MA) to make it 17-0 in favor of the home squad.
UMass Boston would get on the board in the final quarter as junior Rob Uhrig (Boston, MA) scored twice, the second coming on an assist from freshman John Perro (Northbridge, MA), but Eastern Connecticut continued its offensive onslaught, scoring four more times to give them the 21-2 final.
Sophomore goalie Donald Berube (Tewksbury, MA) picked up the win in net from the Warriors, playing the first half and not allowing a goal while making two saves. Junior Jamie Tommins (Fairfield, CT) and sophomore Drew Deane Vernon, CT) spilt time in the second half as Tommins made six saves while Deane notched one save for ECSU. Senior Peter Towe (Hockessin, DE) made 15 saves in goal for the Beacons.
UMass Boston returns to action on Monday, April 11 when they host Mitchell College for a 3:00 p.m. contest at the Clark Athletic Center field in Boston, MA while Eastern Connecticut is back in action on Tuesday, April 12 when they host Wesleyan University for a 7:00 p.m. match.
