KEENE, N.H. 4/19/11 - Fifteen different Owls hit the scoring
column, as the Keene State College men's lacrosse team dropped the
UMass-Boston Beacons 23-3 on Tuesday night at Owl Athletic Complex
in Little East Conference action.
The Owls, who have won six in a row, remain a perfect 4-0 in
conference play and improve to 9-2 on the season, while the Beacons
drop to 4-8 on the season and remain winless in league action at
0-4.
KSC stormed out to a 6-1 lead by the end of the first quarter.
Junior attacker Matt Schairer (Wrentham, Mass.) scored three times
and assisted on another strike to fuel the Owl offense. Freshman
midfielder Grady
Wick (Newton, Mass.) scored the lone UMass Boston goal at the
6:48 mark of the first stanza.
Keene State added to their lead in the second period, outscoring
the Beacons 7-1 in the period for the 13-2 lead heading into the
half. Juniors Jonathan Rodrick (Plaistow, N.H.) and Ian Hart
(Richmond, N.H.) each tallied a goal and an assist in the run.
In the second half, KSC added to their lead, beating the Beacons
goaltender another 10 times and allowing just one more goal for the
23-3 final.
Schairer finished the game with four goals and two assists to
lead all scorers. Sophomores Kyle Lasher (Norfolk, Mass.) and
Taylor Jette (Simsbury, Conn.) each tallied four points for the
Owls in the victory. Jette finished with two assists and two goals,
while Lasher scored a career-high three goals and dished out a
helper. Three other Owls had a multiple point game, including
midfielder Bryan Briggs (Concord, N.H.) with his first career
two-goal game. The freshman also went five-for-six for KSC on the
face-offs.
Freshman Dean
Driscoll (Cohasset, Mass.) had two goals to lead UMass
Boston.
Sophomore midfielder Billy Ries (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) went
eight-for-15 for the Owls in face-offs, while Beacon freshman John
Perro (Northbridge, Mass.) went 10-for-20 in the circle.
The Owls outshot UMass Boston 61-31 and won 16-of-29 face-offs.
KSC was also better in man-up situations, going six-for-11 while
the Owl defense allowed just one goal on seven tries for the
Beacons.
Sophomore Jason Lesser (Brewster, N.Y.) and freshman Sean Brady
(Franklin, Mass.) split time in net for the Owls. Lesser allowed
two goals and made two stops in the first half, while Brady made
four saves and allowed just one goal in the second stanza. Junior
goalkeeper Anthony
Fitti (Havertown, Penn.) allowed 23 goals and made 15 saves in
between the pipes for the Beacons.
The Owls return to action this Saturday with a road conference
game at Southern Maine at 3 p.m. UMass Boston plays next on
Thursday with a home game against Curry at 3 p.m.
