BOSTON, MA - Freshman attackman Ryan Foster (Ledyard, CT)
tallied six points on three goals and three assists, while the
defense allowed just three goals to lead the Western Connecticut
State University men's lacrosse team over host University of
Massachusetts Boston, 14-3, in a Little East Conference match today
at the Clark Athletic Center field on the campus of UMass Boston.
The Colonials improve to 6-5 overall and 1-2 in LEC play, while the
Beacons fall to 4-7 and 0-3.
The Western Connecticut defense held UMass Boston scoreless in
three of four quarters, while the offense was consistent with four
goals in each of the final three quarters of play.
Foster had a hand in four straight goals with the final three of
the second period and the first of the second half. His first tally
of the afternoon gave the Colonials a 4-0 lead at 10:52 of the
second quarter with an assist from junior midfielder Mike Schoen
(Tolland, CT) and assisted on goals by junior attackman Sean Macey
(New Fairfield, CT) at 5:50 and Schoen with 53 seconds left in the
first half. Junior middie Raul Bourgeois (New Milton, CT) found
Foster just 26 seconds into the third quarter for a 7-0
advantage.
Freshman attackman Dean
Driscoll (Cohasset, MA) put the Beacons on the board at the
13:04 mark of the third quarter with his team-leading 20th goal of
the season to make it 7-1, before junior midfielder Ryan Gillis
(Norwich, CT) found the back of the net twice in a span of 42
seconds to give the visitors a 9-1 margin with 11:58 showing in the

Petitti (Quincy, MA) answered for UMass Boston with his 14th
score of the campaign at 9:34 to make it 9-2. Junior attackman J.C.
Flaherty (Old Lyme, CT) found the twine for the Colonials at 8:48,
but junior midfielder Rob
Uhrig (Boston, MA) countered with his 12th goal of the year on
a feed from freshman attackman John
Perro (Northbridge, MA) with 7:28 left to play in the third
quarter to pull the Beacons to within 10-3. It would be as close as
they would get.
Gillis, Macey, Foster and sophomore midfielder John Miller
(Seattle, WA) all netted goals in the final quarter of action for
Western Connecticut State to come away with the 14-3 final.
Bourgeois opened the day's scoring with the only two goals of
the opening quarter, before Macey scored 68 seconds into the second
quarter for the Colonials.
Bourgeois and Macey each finished the afternoon with five points
for Western Connecticut, including Macey's team-high 32nd tally of
the year, while Miller added a team-high seven ground balls to his
goal and assist. Freshman defender Andrew
Guy (Northbridge, MA) led UMass Boston with five ground
balls.
Junior goalie Tyler Martone (Cheshire, CT) picked up the victory
for Western Connecticut State, stopping seven of 10 shots in 49:55
of action, while junior Max Beitel (Newtown, CT) denied the only
shot he faced in 6:14 of play and freshman goalie Dan Lee (Clinton,
CT) went untested in the final 3:51 for the Colonials. Junior Anthony

action for Beacons, while senior Peter
