Wentworth Homer, Levasseur Relief Propel Beacons in LEC Tournament

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. (May 7, 2026) – UMass Boston softball extended its winning streak to seven games with a 5-2 comeback victory against Plymouth State to open the Little East Conference Tournament. A game-changing three-run home run from first-year shortstop Liv Wentworth (Fitchburg, MA.) erased an early deficit, and sophomore Izzy Levasseur (Amesbury, MA.) was dominant in relief to secure the win for the Beacons (26-11).

Plymouth State jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, scoring single runs in the first and second innings off starter Lexus McIntosh (Lancaster, NH.). The Beacons' offense broke through in the top of the third. After senior Sofie Richland (Burlington, VT.) and sophomore Mary Matthews (Wilsonville, OR.) reached base, Wentworth crushed a go-ahead, three-run homer to left-center field, giving UMass Boston a 3-2 advantage it would not surrender.

Levasseur entered the game in the bottom of the third and immediately halted the Panthers' momentum, inducing a key inning-ending double play.

UMass Boston added two crucial insurance runs in the fifth inning. Richland scored her second run of the game on an RBI double from Wentworth, who then came around to score on an RBI single by junior Mya Perron (Beverly, MA.) to push the lead to 5-2.

Wentworth finished the day 2-for-4 with a home run, a double and a game-high four RBIs. Levasseur earned the win with five scoreless innings of relief, scattering six hits while striking out two. Richland also posted a multi-hit game, going 2-for-4 with two runs scored. The Beacons played flawless defense, committing zero errors and turning two double plays.

By the Numbers:

  • Liv Wentworth went 2-for-4 with a home run, a double, and four RBI, accounting for all but one of the Beacons' runs.
  • Sofie Richland went 2-for-4 and scored twice out of the leadoff spot.
  • Izzy Levasseur earned the win in relief, tossing five innings of shutout ball and stranding multiple base runners.
  • UMass Boston committed zero errors on the afternoon while Plymouth State's lone miscue led directly to a pair of unearned runs.
  • Mya Perron finished 2-for-3 with an RBI and a stolen base, and Avery Weinstein added a double.
