Beacons Sweep WestConn in Powerful LEC Doubleheader at Home

BOSTON, Mass. (April 28, 2026) – UMass Boston (21-11, 6-8 LEC) surged past Western Connecticut State with a dominant sweep in a pivotal Little East Conference doubleheader at the UMB Softball Field, claiming Game 1 by a 4-1 score and Game 2 in run-rule fashion, 11-2. The Beacons rode explosive offense, standout pitching and timely hitting from players like Mya Perron (Beverly, Mass.), Lauren Miner (Millbury, Mass.) and Sofie Richland (Burlington, Vt.), keeping conference postseason hopes alive and pushing their home record to 7-3.

How It Happened:

Game 1 saw the Beacons strike quickly, as Mya Perron tripled to right-center to drive in two runs in the first inning and added a third RBI on a fielder's choice in the third. Liv Wentworth (Fitchburg, Mass.) notched a two-hit game and crossed home as part of the decisive early rally. On the mound, Lauryn Meade (Hanson, Mass.) delivered a stellar complete-game effort, allowing just one hit—a solo home run in the fourth—and striking out 10 to anchor the 4-1 win.

In Game 2, Western Connecticut grabbed a 2-0 lead before UMass Boston's offense erupted. Hayley Krockta (Taunton, Mass.) drove in the Beacons' first run in the third, and Lauren Miner tied it with a triple before smashing a three-run homer the next inning. The Beacons blew the game open with a six-run sixth, capped by Sofie Richland's two-run double. Lexus McIntosh (Lancaster, N.H.) tossed a complete game, scattering three hits and keeping WestConn off the board over the final innings to secure the 11-2 run-rule victory.
