Beacons Stride Past Warriors in LEC Quarterfinals

BOSTON, MASS. (April 28, 2026) The Little East conference thrid-seeded UMass Boston Beacons defeated the sixth-seeded Seed Eastern Connecticut State University Warriors 13-9 in the LEC Quarterfinals to advance to the LEC Semis on Thursday.

How It Happened

The Beacons struggled to break away from the Warriors early in the contest. Then, three straight goals from Jack Schartner (Bolton, Mass.), Patrick Dwinnells (Ashland, Mass.), & freshman attacker Reilly Collins (Portsmouth, NH) created an early gap for the hosts. The first quarter ended with a miraculous goal from starting defender Hank Alessandro (Barrington, RI), who scored a full-field length goal as the quarter expired to give the Beacons a 5-3 lead after the first.

Seamus Donoghue scored the second of his two goals for the Warriors early in the second to close the gap to two. The Beacons responded with another three-goal spurt on both sides of the halftime intermission, and Eastern Connecticut State never got that close again.

The teams went back and forth throughout the second half, with the Beacons leading by either 4 points or 5 throughout the vast majority of the second half. Beacons Goalie James Boldy (Wrentham, Mass.) made 12 saves in the game to prevent Eastern Connecticut from getting any closer to the Beacons down the stretch.
