NEWTON, Mass. (April 25, 2026) -- A spirited fourth-quarter comeback attempt by UMass Boston women's lacrosse (6-11, 4-4 Little East Conference) fell just short on Saturday as the Beacons dropped their regular season finale to Plymouth State University in a thrilling 11-9 Little East Conference decision. The Beacons were anchored by a career-best 15-save performance from goalkeeper Anette Bennett-Tucker (New Bedford, Mass.).
How It Happened
Plymouth State jumped out to an early lead, scoring the game's first five goals to build a 5-0 advantage by the 9:56 mark of the second quarter. Teresa Sheedy (Quincy, Mass.) broke the scoring drought for the Beacons with a goal, and a late player-up, free-position tally from Angelina Mazzone (Beverly, Mass.) sent UMass Boston into halftime trailing 6-2.
The teams traded goals throughout the third quarter, with each side finding the net three times. Sheedy, Rae Alexander (Georgia, Vt.) and Emily Pearl (Orleans, Mass.) all scored for UMass Boston, but the Panthers maintained their advantage, taking a 9-5 lead into the final period.
The Beacons mounted their rally in the fourth quarter, outscoring the visitors 4-2. Ava Duffy (Boston, Mass.) ignited the comeback with consecutive goals to slice the deficit to 9-7 with 12:24 remaining. After a Plymouth State goal, Mazzone scored her second of the day to make it 10-8. The final goal for the Beacons came from Morgan Holohan (Averill Park, NY) with 3:12 left on the clock, but the rally ran out of time.
By The Numbers
Despite the loss, UMass Boston dominated the draw circle, winning 16 draw controls to Plymouth State's six. However, the Panthers held a significant advantage in shots, 37-23, and shots on goal, 24-12.
Sheedy led the offense with a team-high three points on two goals and one assist, adding a game-high six draw controls. Duffy and Mazzone also finished with two goals apiece for the Beacons. Bennett-Tucker's 15 saves in goal kept UMass Boston in contention against the high volume of shots.
