Beacons' Season Concludes with Hard-Fought Quarterfinals Loss

PLYMOUTH, N.H. -- The UMass Boston women's lacrosse team saw its season come to an end Tuesday, falling 15-10 to Plymouth State University in the Little East Conference Quarterfinals at Plymouth, NH. The Beacons conclude the 2026 campaign with an overall record of 6-12. Seniors Angelina Mazzone (Beverly, Mass.) and freshman Morgan Holohan (Averill Park, NJ) each scored four goals in the hard-fought contest.

HOW IT HAPPENED

UMass Boston started strong, jumping out to a 3-1 lead in the first quarter behind a natural hat trick from Mazzone. The Beacons controlled the pace early, winning eight of the first 10 draw controls in the first half. After trading goals throughout a competitive second quarter, the teams entered halftime deadlocked at 6-6.

The momentum shifted decisively in the third quarter as Plymouth State took control. The Panthers dominated possession in the second half, winning the draw control battle 10-4 and outscoring the Beacons 6-3 in the third frame to build a 12-9 advantage. A man-down goal by Plymouth State late in the period extended their lead and stifled a potential UMass Boston comeback.

The Beacons battled in the fourth quarter, but the Panthers' offense kept the pressure on, adding three more goals. Senior Teresa Sheedy (Quincy, Mass.) scored the final goal of the season for UMass Boston with just under seven minutes remaining, but it was not enough to overcome the deficit.

BY THE NUMBERS

Mazzone and Holohan powered the offense with four goals apiece. Sheedy delivered an outstanding all-around performance, finishing with one goal, two assists, a game-high four caused turnovers and a team-high five draw controls. Senior Jamie McAleavey (Quincy, Mass.) also collected five draw controls and added an assist. In goal, freshman Anette Bennet-Tucker (New Bedford, Mass.) stood tall against a barrage of shots, making 16 saves. Defensively, sophomore Kaitlyn Ondrick (Westfield, Mass.) contributed three caused turnovers and an assist.
