Beacons Swept in Castleton Doubleheader

CASTLETON, Vt. (April 21, 2026) – UMass Boston (16-10, 3-7 LEC) suffered a doubleheader sweep at the hands of Vermont State University Castleton at the Spartan Field, falling 5-4 on a seventh-inning walk-off in the opener and 7-1 in the nightcap.

How It Happened:

  • In Game 1, UMass Boston built a 2-0 lead in the second inning as Ella Delisle (Amesbury, Mass.) ripped a two-run double to left center, scoring Gracie Granger (Paxton, Mass.) and Mya Perron (Beverly, Mass.). - The Beacons kept the Sparrtans quiet until the sixth, when a solo home run cut the lead to 2-1. UMass Boston appeared to seize control by capitalizing on a fielding error in the seventh, with Liv Wentworth (Fitchburg, Mass.) reaching on a miscue to plate two unearned runs for a 4-1 cushion. Castleton answered with a furious bottom of the seventh: six hits produced four runs, capped by a two-run game-tying double and a walk-off single for a 5-4 defeat.
  • In Game 2, Hayley Krockta (Taunton, Mass.) doubled and scored the lone Beacons run in the second inning after Amaya Rodriguez (Indio, Calif.) reached on an error. Castleton's offense overpowered UMB with 13 hits, steadily pulling away with runs in the first, fourth and sixth innings.

By the Numbers:

  • UMass Boston totaled seven hits and five runs across both games, with just three walks for the doubleheader.
  • Lauryn Meade (Hanson, Mass.) matched her season high with seven strikeouts over 6 2/3 innings in Game 1, holding Castleton to one run until the fateful seventh.
  • Izzy Levasseur (Amesbury, Mass.) recorded her first multi-hit game of 2026 in the opener and also started Game 2 in the circle.
  • Liv Wentworth had two RBIs in Game 1 and added a single in Game 2, continuing her productive freshman campaign. - The Beacons have now lost four straight, slipping to 3-7 in conference play, while Castleton improved to 18-7 overall.

UMass Boston returns home looking to snap their skid, hosting Nichols College in a non-conference doubleheader Thursday, April 23 at 3:30 p.m. at UMB Softball Field.
