Beacons Stumble on Senior Day, Drop LEC Doubleheader to Eastern Connecticut State

BOSTON, Mass. (April 18, 2026) – UMass Boston softball (16-8, 3-5 LEC) dropped both ends of a Senior Day doubleheader to Little East Conference rivals Eastern Connecticut State, 3-1 and 4-1, at the brand new UMB Softball Field on Saturday. The Beacons honored their senior class at home while receiving complete-game efforts from both starters.

HOW IT HAPPENED

In Game 1, both starters exchanged zeros through four innings before Hayley Krockta (Taunton, Mass.) broke the scoreless tie with a solo home run to deep center field in the bottom of the fourth, the Beacons' first on their new turf field. Eastern Connecticut State responded in the fifth when Grace Jenkins delivered a two-run homer to left field, giving the Warriors a 2-1 lead. An RBI single from Leah Chatfield in the seventh extended it to 3-1. Lauryn Meade (Hanson, Mass.) pitched a complete game, striking out seven.

Game 2 saw UMass Boston fall behind early, surrendering two runs in the first inning when a double play ball scored two Warriors. The offense was held at bay until the sixth, when Liv Wentworth (Fitchburg, Mass.) tripled to right center to drive in Marin Prest (Warwick, RI), cutting the deficit to three. Reagan Lalor had provided the deciding blow with a solo home run to left field in the top of the sixth, and the Beacons were unable to close the gap despite drawing five walks. Lexus McIntosh (Lancaster, NH) threw a complete game, allowing four runs on seven hits.

BY THE NUMBERS

The Beacons totaled six hits across both games — four in Game 1 and two in Game 2 — with one extra-base hit in each contest. UMass Boston pitchers threw complete games in both outings, with Meade striking out seven in the opener and McIntosh recording three strikeouts in the finale.
