Providence, R.I. (March 30, 2026) — The UMass Boston softball team (8-4, 1-1 LEC) split the Little East Conference season-opening doubleheader with Rhode Island College on Monday, taking the opener 7-4 before falling in the nightcap 4-0.
Game 1 — UMass Boston 7, Rhode Island College 4
The Beacons jumped on Rhode Island College starter Gabby Cunha (3-3) early and never surrendered the lead, with Lexus McIntosh (Lancaster, NH) (5-2) going the distance to secure the win.
UMass Boston scored in each of the first two innings, getting an RBI single from Hayley Krockta (Taunton, Mass.) in the first and a run-scoring single from Sofie Richland (Burlington, Vt.) in the second.
Rhode Island College answered with two in the bottom of the second on a two-RBI single from Brianna Bailey and took a 3-2 lead in the third.
The Beacons reclaimed control in a decisive fifth inning. Lauren Miner (Millbury, Mass.) launched a two-run home run to right center — her second this season — to put UMass Boston back on top, and the Beacons kept rolling. Krockta and Mya Perron (Beverly, Mass.) hit back-to-back doubles, with Perron's plating Krockta, before an Ella Delisle (Amesbury, Mass.) fielder's choice and a Kayla Murphy (West Newbury, Mass.) sacrifice fly pushed the lead to 7-3.
Rhode Island College added a run in the sixth, but McIntosh retired the side in order in the seventh to close it out. McIntosh scattered eight hits and allowed four runs — all earned — while going the distance.
Miner finished 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored. Krockta, Perron, Delisle, and Liv Wentworth (Fitchburg, Mass.) each collected two hits for the Beacons, who totaled 13 on the day.
Game 2 — Rhode Island College 4, UMass Boston 0
Mia Crudale was untouchable in the nightcap, throwing a complete-game shutout to give the Anchorwomen the split. Crudale (7-0) allowed just four hits, walked three, and struck out two over seven innings, throwing 116 pitches.
The Beacons threatened in the fourth, loading the bases with no outs after back-to-back walks to Miner and Krockta, and a Mya Perron single, but Miner was caught at home, and a flyout ended the inning without a run.
