GEORGETOWN, TX (March 21, 2026) -- UMass Boston women's lacrosse snapped its seven-game skid in emphatic fashion on Saturday, powering past Southwestern University 14-3 in a non-conference road win. The Beacons (1-7) stormed out to an 11-0 halftime advantage and never looked back, with standout efforts from Ava Duffy (Boston, Mass.), Angelina Mazzone (Beverly, Mass.), Teresa Sheedy (Quincy, Mass.), and goalkeeper Elizabeth Crowley (Medfield, Mass.) leading the way.
HOW IT HAPPENED
UMass Boston wasted no time establishing control in Georgetown, TX, as Mazzone opened the scoring and set the tone for a relentless first half. The Beacons defense clamped down early, allowing just one Southwestern shot in the opening quarter and forcing four turnovers. On offense, UMass Boston capitalized on their opportunities, with two quick goals in the first period to jump ahead 2-0.
The second quarter proved decisive, as the Beacons unleashed a nine-goal barrage. Duffy caught fire, scoring four times—including a free position goal—while contributions poured in from all over the field. Jamie McAleavey (Quincy, Mass.), Cadence Kelly (Binghamton, N.Y.), and Rae Alexander (Georgia, Vt.) each found the back of the net, while Mazzone continued to dominate the draw. UMass Boston's defense held Southwestern scoreless in the first half and forced 18 total turnovers in the game, showcasing high-pressure play and perfect transition work with a 12-for-12 clear rate.
Southwestern broke up the shutout in the third quarter but the Beacons responded with scores from Duffy and Samantha DeMarco (Bayville, N.J.) to maintain a comfortable advantage. Crowley anchored the defense with eight saves, holding the hosts to just three goals. Nine different Beacons tallied at least one goal, highlighting balanced scoring and teamwork that overwhelmed the Pirates from start to finish.
