WHITMAN PULLS AWAY IN FOURTH

GEORGETOWN, TX (March 18, 2026) -- UMass Boston women's lacrosse fell 17-8 to Whitman in a non-conference matchup to begin their Spring Break trip.  


HOW IT HAPPENED 

The Beacons opened slowly, falling behind 3-0 to Whitman in the first quarter. In the second quarter, UMass Boston found momentum behind goals from Teresa Sheedy (Quincy, Mass.) and Kheiara Vilus (Brockton, Mass.), narrowing the deficit to 3-2.  Whitman responded with four unanswered goals to take a 7-2 lead into halftime. 

UMass Boston steadied in the third quarter, trading goals with Whitman. Ava Duffy (Boston, Mass.), Angelina Mazzone (Beverly, Mass.), and Sheedy each found the back of the net, but Whitman was able to maintain their six-goal cushion at 11-5 entering the fourth. The final frame saw Whitman outscore the Beacons 7-3, but goals from Emily Pearl (Orleans, Mass.), Alexander, and Kaitlyn Ondrick (Westfield, Mass.) helped the Beacons finish strong. 


BY THE NUMBERS 

• Rae Alexander (Georgia, Vt.) paced the Beacons with one goal and three assists 
• Teresa Sheedy (Quincy, Mass.) finished with two goals, one assist, four draw controls and three ground balls 
• Angelina Mazzone (Beverly, Mass.) added a goal, four ground balls and a caused turnover 
• UMass Boston finished 12-for-14 on clears and posted 10 caused turnovers 
• The Beacons recorded a 38 percent shooting clip with nine shots on goal and forced 12 Whitman turnovers
