Gorham, ME (Feb. 14, 2026) — UMass Boston men's ice hockey (13-9-1, 8- 7-1 LEC) dropped a hard-fought Little East Conference contest to the University of Southern Maine (12-10-1, 10-5-1 LEC), 4-3, Saturday evening despite heavily outshooting the Huskies.
UMass Boston opened the scoring in the first period when defenseman Rhett Kodsi (Boca Raton, Fla.) found the back of the net. The Huskies answered before the intermission to send the game into the second period tied at one. Southern Maine took its first lead of the game with the lone goal of the second period, making it 2-1 heading into the final frame.
Southern Maine extended its lead to 3-1 at the 13:52 mark of the third period. UMass Boston showed its resilience, cutting the deficit back to one when Jakub Teply (Lake Forest, Ill.) scored his first of the night at 16:19 off assists from Jude Kurtas (Hillsborough, NJ.) and Steven Spetz (Oak Ridge, NJ). The Huskies added an empty-net goal with a minute remaining to make it 4-2, which proved to be the game-winner. Michael Lynch (Stoneham, Mass.) scored with 13 seconds left, assisted by Kyle Isenberg (Anaheim, Calif.) and Chris Repmann (Middletown, NJ), but the late push was not enough to complete the comeback.
Despite the loss, UMass Boston dominated offensively, firing 50 total shots on goal. Teply led the Beacons with six shots on goal, while Lynch added five. Goaltender Connor McDonough (Mendham, NJ) made 30 saves for UMass Boston in the effort.
The Beacons were competitive at the faceoff dot, winning 34 draws to the Huskies' 30. Jack Mortson (Detroit, Mich.) had a strong performance, winning a team-high 16 faceoffs.
