Beacons Fall in Close Contest Against Owls

Boston, Mass. (January 24, 2026) — The UMass Boston women's basketball team nearly erased a slow offensive start, but a late push came up short as the Beacons fell 56–52 to Keene State in Little East Conference play at home.

UMass Boston opened the game with early momentum, scoring the first four points on a layup from Hialeah Turner-Foster and a second-chance bucket by Ashleigh Lagor. A three-pointer from Madison Haggett gave the Beacons a 7–3 edge before Keene State responded with a 14-point run to close the first quarter, taking a 17–9 lead. Haggett led UMass Boston in the opening frame with five points on 2-for-3 shooting.

Offense was hard to come by in the second quarter for the Beacons, who shot just 3-for-17 from the field and went 0-for-5 from beyond the arc. Keene State capitalized, shooting 4-for-12 overall and 3-for-5 from three-point range to extend its lead to 28–15 at halftime.

The Beacons came out of the break with renewed energy, outscoring the Owls 22–8 in the third quarter. Turner-Foster gave UMass Boston its first lead since the opening minutes after forcing a turnover and converting an and-one layup to make it 35–33. The Beacons held onto a slim 37–36 advantage heading into the final quarter.

Sabanna Berrios opened the fourth quarter with a basket, but Keene State answered with a three to tie the game at 39. The Owls then knocked down back-to-back three-pointers to regain control. UMass Boston battled back behind another Turner-Foster layup and a Haggett three, pulling to within one point with 45 seconds remaining. However, the Beacons were unable to reclaim the lead, falling 56–52.

Haggett led UMass Boston with 14 points, while Turner-Foster added 13. Berrios paced the Beacons on the glass with eight rebounds. Tajeiha Madison recorded a team-high four steals and tied for the team lead in assists with Jordis Tautalatasi, who also dished out three.
