BOSTON, Mass. (January 23, 2026) – UMass Boston men's ice hockey (10-6-0, 5-4-0 LEC) battled back multiple times but could not overcome an early deficit, falling 6–4 to UMass Dartmouth (9-7-0, 4-4-0 LEC) on Friday evening from the Edward T. Barry Ice Rink.
The Corsairs struck first just 26 seconds into the contest and never relinquished the lead, scoring twice on the power play in the opening period to build a 4–1 advantage after 20 minutes.
Jack Mortson (Detroit, Mich.) put the Beacons on the board midway through the first period, finishing a feed from Jazz Krivtsov (Santa Clarita, Calif.) and Jude Kurtas (Hillsborough, NJ) to cut the deficit to 2–1. UMass Dartmouth responded with a late power-play goal to restore momentum heading into the intermission.
UMass Boston showed resilience in the second period, outshooting the Corsairs and narrowing the gap to 4–2 when Jakub Teply (Stamford, Conn.) buried an even-strength tally at 2:44, assisted by Jacob Roberson (Jacksonville, Fla.) and Colin Richard (Foxborough, Mass.). The Corsairs answered with the eventual game-winning goal at 5:32 before trading goals later in the frame. Michael Lynch Stoneham, Mass.) pulled the Beacons within two at 15:45, but UMass Dartmouth responded just four seconds later to regain a three-goal cushion.
The Beacons pressed hard in the third period, generating sustained offensive-zone pressure and pulling the goalie late. Jake Lindstrom (Denver, Colo.) capped the comeback effort with an unassisted goal at 19:54, but time expired before UMass Boston could close the gap further.
Mortson led the Beacons with a goal and a team-high five shots, while Krivtsov recorded a goal and an assist. Teply and Lynch each added goals, and Kurtas contributed an assist as part of a multi-point performance. UMass Boston finished with 51 shots on goal.
Connor McDonough (Mendham, NJ) made 17 saves in relief for the Beacons after entering late in the first period.
The Beacons will return to action tomorrow (Sat. January 24) in New Bedford, MA, at the Hetland Arena as they head to UMass Dartmouth for the second half of their weekend stint with the Corsairs, with puck drop scheduled for 4:00 PM.
