Beacons Drop Game 2 Versus Corsairs

New Bedford, Mass. (January 24, 2026) — The UMass Boston men's ice hockey team fell 5–2 on the road to UMass Dartmouth Saturday night.

The Corsairs struck first on the power play at 9:28 of the opening period, as Tyler Stewart found the back of the net. Stewart added his second goal of the night before the end of the first period, giving UMass Dartmouth a 2–0 advantage after 20 minutes.

The Corsairs extended their lead to 3–0 early in the second period, but the Beacons responded with a pair of quick goals to pull within one. Jazz Krivtsov got UMass Boston on the board at 4:15, finishing a play set up by Jack Mortson and Chris Merryman. Just over a minute later, Mortson netted his eighth goal of the season off assists from Rhett Kodsi and Krivtsov. Kodsi recorded his eighth assist of the year and his second in as many games against the Corsairs.

UMass Boston continued to apply pressure throughout the second period, outshooting UMass Dartmouth 26–14, but entered the intermission trailing by one.

The Beacons kept pushing in the third period, holding a 13–10 shot advantage, but Stewart completed his hat trick with another power-play goal. An empty-net tally with just over a minute remaining sealed the 5–2 final.

UMass Boston outshot the Corsairs 53–34 for the game, with Jude Kurtas leading the team with eight shots on goal. The Beacons fell short in the faceoff circle, 47–33, though Mortson led the team by winning 14 draws. Defensively, Kurtas, Kodsi, Kyle Isenberg, and Steven Spetz each recorded two blocked shots.
