Boston, MA (Jan. 21, 2026) — A dominant first quarter propelled the UMass Boston women's basketball team to a 75–64 victory over the Vermont State University Castleton Spartans, improving the Beacons to 5–3 in Little East Conference play. 

UMass Boston wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, as Jordis Tautalatasi converted a basket just five seconds into the game. The Beacons controlled the opening frame, outscoring Castleton 15–2 midway through the quarter. By the end of the first, Hialeah Turner-Foster and Sabanna Berrios were already in double figures with 10 points apiece, as UMass Boston poured in 28 first-quarter points. 

The Beacons continued to build their lead in the second quarter, stretching it to a game-high 27 points (30–3) following a Turner-Foster field goal. Turner-Foster and Berrios remained the driving force offensively, heading into halftime with 16 points each. The duo combined for an efficient 14-of-15 shooting in the first half. 

Castleton responded with a strong third quarter, outscoring UMass Boston 23–16 to cut the deficit to 58–43 heading into the final quarter. The Spartans continued to push in the fourth, but the Beacons answered every run to maintain control and secure the win. 

Turner-Foster led all scorers with 28 points on 12-of-16 shooting. Berrios followed closely with 27 points and nine rebounds. Sibayla Jensen was perfect from the field (2-for-2) and dished out a team-high six assists in the victory.
