Beacons' Big Three Combine for 61 in Road Win over Anchormen

Providence, R.I. (January 17, 2026) – The UMass Boston men's basketball sophomore trio of Raphel Laurent (Peabody, Mass.), Davon Sanders (Mansfield, Mass.) and Cameron Perkins (Danbury, Conn.) combined for 61 of the Beacons' 77 points in a commanding 77–64 Little East Conference victory over Rhode Island College (8-8, 4-3 LEC) on Saturday afternoon at The Murray Center. UMass Boston improved to 10-6 overall and 6-1 in LEC play after controlling much of the contest from start to finish.

After the Anchormen opened the scoring with a three-pointer, UMass Boston responded with strong interior play and efficient ball movement to take control early. Perkins and Sanders combined for multiple early baskets, while Carson Meczywor (Adams, Mass.) and Connor Walden (Marshfield, Mass.) anchored the paint defensively as the Beacons went on a 25–9 run midway through the opening half.

UMass Boston extended its lead to as many as 15 points late in the first half, highlighted by back-to-back three-pointers from Perkins and Steven Cordero (Everett, Mass.). The Beacons carried a 38–25 advantage into halftime after holding Rhode Island College to one field goal over the final five minutes of the half.

The Beacons continued to apply pressure out of the break, opening the second half with a 13–5 run to push the lead to 18. Perkins and Laurent connected from beyond the arc, while Sanders and Meczywor finished in transition to keep momentum on UMass Boston's side.

Rhode Island College made several pushes throughout the second half, trimming the margin to as few as 10 with under four minutes remaining, but the Beacons answered each time with timely baskets and defensive stops. Laurent knocked down multiple three-pointers down the stretch, while Meczywor converted at the free-throw line to seal the result.

UMass Boston finished the afternoon with balanced scoring and strong defensive activity, recording multiple blocks, steals, and fast-break points while controlling the pace for the majority of the game.

Perkins led all scorers with 27 points (10-of-18 shooting, 4-of-6 from three), while adding seven rebounds and three assists. Laurent and Sanders followed with 18 and 16 points, respectively, with Laurent grabbing five rebounds and Sanders dishing out a team-high four assists. Meczywor led the Beacons on the glass with eight rebounds to go along with seven points.

As a team, UMass Boston shot 50 percent from the field (28-of-56) and 47 percent from beyond the arc (11-of-23), while recording 14 second-chance points, 32 points in the paint, and 14 points off turnovers.

The Beacons return to Little East Conference action on Wednesday, January 21 at 7:00 p.m. when they host Vermont State University Castleton from the Clark Gymnasium.
