BOSTON, Mass. (January 16, 2026) – The UMass Boston women's ice hockey team (8-4-2, 4-2-1 LEC) earned a 3–2 shootout victory over the University of Southern Maine (6-8-1, 5-3-1 LEC) on Friday night at the Edward T. Barry Ice Rink.
UMass Boston opened the scoring just 3:54 into the contest when first-year Shea Nolan (Quincy, Mass.) netted the first goal of her collegiate career off assists from Grace Lynch (West Roxbury, Mass.) and Kaitlyn Ondrick (Westfield, Mass.). The Beacons doubled the lead at 6:53, as Maggie Lynch (Quincy, Mass.) finished a feed from Grace Lynch and Adriana Crepaldi (Brick, N.J) to make it 2–0.
Southern Maine responded late in the opening period, cutting the deficit to one on a goal by Jillian Jackson at the 15:36 mark. UMass Boston carried the 2–1 lead into the first intermission after outshooting the Huskies and killing off an early penalty.
The Huskies tied the game early in the second period, as Sydnee Chaisson scored at 4:02 to even the score at 2–2. Southern Maine earned multiple power-play opportunities throughout the period, but the Beacons' penalty kill held firm, blocking shots and limiting quality chances. UMass Boston generated several looks of its own, including a power play midway through the frame, though neither side found the net again before the end of the period.
The third period remained scoreless despite chances at both ends. Southern Maine had two power-play opportunities, while UMass Boston pressed late, forcing sustained offensive-zone time. Senior standout goalkeeper Leah Bosch (Minnetonka, Minn.) turned aside every shot she faced in the period to keep the game tied.
Neither team was able to convert during the five-minute overtime, as both goalies made key saves to extend the contest to a shootout.
In the shootout, Mia Boyd (Buffalo, NY) scored the lone goal, while Bosch stopped all three Southern Maine attempts to secure the win for the Beacons.
Bosch finished the night with a strong performance in goal, including 20 total saves, with six coming in overtime and the shootout. Maggie Lynch led the offensive charge for the Beacons with seven total shots and one goal, while Grace Lynch assisted on both goals. Gianna Skrelja (South Lyon, Mich.) led the defensive effort with a team-high three blocked shots in the shootout win. Shea Nolan was a team-high 12-17 (70%) from the face off circle.
UMass Boston will return to the Edward T. Barry Ice Rink tomorrow (Saturday, Jan. 17) afternoon at 1:00 PM for the second half of their homestead against the Southern Maine Huskies.
