Boston, Mass. (January 17, 2026) — The UMass Boston women's ice hockey team dropped game two of its weekend series against the University of Southern Maine, falling 5–3 on Saturday afternoon.
The Huskies struck first early in the opening period on a goal by Jillian Jackson, but Lily Hayes responded just over two minutes later to even the score at 1–1. Hayes' goal was assisted by Adriana Crepaldi and Mia Boyd. The Beacons then took their first lead of the afternoon at 14:15, when Boyd found the back of the net on the power play, with Cassidy Morrison picking up the assist.
Southern Maine answered while shorthanded, capitalizing on Beacon miscues during another UMass Boston power play to knot the game at 2–2 heading into the first intermission. The Huskies struck again shorthanded in the second period, taking a 3–2 lead into the final frame.
UMass Boston battled back once more in the third period, tying the game at 3–3 on a goal from Gianna Skrelja, assisted by Darby Rounseville and Emily Hansen. However, Jackson netted her second goal of the game at 16:22, which proved to be the game-winner for Southern Maine despite the Beacons' offensive pressure.
The Beacons held the Huskies scoreless on the power play (0-for-2), but converted just once on seven opportunities with the advantage, surrendering two shorthanded goals in the process.
UMass Boston outshot Southern Maine 33–16 and won the faceoff battle, 26–21.
