BOSTON, Mass. (January 14, 2026) – UMass Boston men's basketball (9-6, 5-1 LEC) led from start to finish and never looked back, cruising to an 80–55 victory over Plymouth State (6-9, 2-4 LEC) on Wednesday night at the Clark Athletic Center in Little East Conference action.
The Beacons set the tone immediately, scoring the game's first seven points and forcing turnovers on Plymouth State's opening possessions. UMass Boston used its defensive pressure and transition offense to build an early cushion and steadily widened the gap throughout the opening half.
Behind balanced scoring and strong ball movement, the Beacons pushed the lead to double figures midway through the period and continued to control both ends of the floor. A late first-half surge, capped by a Raphel Laurent (Peabody, Mass.) three-pointer and a fastbreak layup in the final minute, sent UMass Boston into the locker room with a commanding 47–21 advantage.
The second half followed a similar script. UMass Boston maintained its tempo, converted in transition, and limited Plymouth State's scoring opportunities to keep the Panthers at arm's length. Cameron Perkins (Danbury, Conn.) and Davon Sanders (Mansfield, Mass.) continued to attack the paint, while the Beacons' depth allowed them to sustain energy on both ends of the court.
The lead grew to as many as 34 in the second half, and UMass Boston was able to empty the bench over the final minutes while preserving control of the game. Plymouth State connected on a handful of late threes, but the outcome was never in doubt as the Beacons closed out the 80–55 victory.
Perkins led all scorers with an efficient 32 points (11-17 FG) including three three-pointers, three assists, and a game-high ten rebounds for his second consecutive game with a 30-point double-double. Behind Perkins was Laurent with 17 points on 50% FG shooting with five rebounds and three assists. Junior guard Steven Cordero (Everett, Mass.) and Clayton McLaren (Brockton, Mass.) led the defensive effort, each with a pair of steals.
UMass Boston men's basketball is back in LEC action this Saturday, January 17 at 3:00 PM in Providence, RI against the Rhode Island College Anchormen, as they seek their third consecutive victory.
