Newton, MA (Apr. 9, 2025) — Teresa Sheedy (Quincy, Mass.) scored a career-high four goals, but it wasn't enough as the Beacons fell to the UMass Dartmouth Corsairs, 13-12, on Wednesday afternoon.
How it Happened
The back-and-forth battle began with runs from both sides. UMass Boston struck first, as Angelina Mazzone (Beverly, Mass.) netted her first of three goals at 10:23. Less than two minutes later, Jamie McAleavey (Quincy, Mass.) tallied her 17th goal of the season. Teresa Sheedy scored her first of the day at 7:23, and Emily Pearl (Orleans, Mass.) capped off the Beacons' early run with her first of three goals. UMass Dartmouth managed to get on the board before the end of the first quarter.
The early second quarter belonged to the Corsairs, who rattled off five unanswered goals to take a 6-4 lead with 6:09 left in the half. The Beacons responded, with Sheedy scoring her second, followed by a goal from Hannah Rich (Rockland, Mass.). Mazzone gave the Beacons a brief lead before UMass Dartmouth's Maddy Allen evened things up at seven heading into halftime.
Emily Pearl opened the third quarter scoring, and Sheedy followed with back-to-back goals—giving her four on the day and putting the Beacons up 10-7. However, the Corsairs answered with a woman up goal from Jenny Lipanovich and another from Allen, narrowing the gap to 10-9.
UMass Dartmouth tied the game early in the fourth quarter, but Pearl responded with her third of the day—her first hat trick of the season. The Corsairs countered with two quick goals to go up 12-11. Mazzone then completed her hat trick, also her first of the season, tying the game at 12. But with 3:05 left, UMass Dartmouth scored what would be the game-winning goal, sealing the 13-12 victory.
